Fishing the tailwaters of Kinzua Dam
Fishing the tailwaters of Kinzua Dam
(continued from previous page)
In the 1990s nearly 90 miles of
the Allegheny River were
designated Wild and Scenic
River and the Allegheny National
Recreation Area was born with
Pennsylvania's only official
wilderness lands. And this year,
Congress is considering
enlarging the Pennsylvania
Wilderness, ensuring that this
will always be a great spot to
fish.
Kinzua tailwaters
Six miles from Warren, fishing the tailwaters of Kinzua
Dam. Access is by Hemlock Road from Warren's East
Side at the old
Allegheny Hotel. A fishing pier has
been built exactly where this fisherman is standing.
Welcome to the Walleye and Northern Pike capital of
Pennsylvania! This is the home of the
Pennsylvania state
fishing tournament, held here and on the lake every
September with headquarters in Tidioute.

According to outdoor writer
Mike Bleech:
"The best trophy musky fishery in Pennsylvania,
perhaps the best in the eastern U.S.
, is the Allegheny
Reservoir."

Allegheny Guide
Service. They have some amazing pictures!
According to
Pennsylvania Angler and Boater
"Serious musky hounds are convinced that this big lake
holds a state record, and probably several of them.
Sometime, a musky there might challenge the world
record"
Kinzua Lake (Allegheny Reservoir)  is 27 miles long and has over 100 miles
of shoreline. Before visiting you may want to check out these useful links:
